A children’s picture book story to be enjoyed whether alone

or read aloud with others…

In the big, Big City among the tall building lived a small brown haired boy, a boy named Roy. He was a boy like any other boy, he liked to have fun with his toys and play games. And he had a lot of friends. "Had" being the key word, because now the boy, the boy named Roy no longer had a lot of friends in the end. For the simple reason being he did not like sharing. He shared nothing. What was his were his and no one else’s. His toys were his, his games were his, and the fun he had alone was his. And sense it wasn't any fun watching the boy, the boy named Roy play with his toys and play games with a ball.

His friends decided to go home. First one, then all. Eventually, his friends stopped playing with the boy, the boy named Roy. And he did not mind. In fact he did not miss them at all. He had no need for friends; they only got in his way of having fun. Until one day, when there was a knock at the door.

His mother called to him and said, "There is a kid, a kid at the front door." In shock and sheer panic. The boy, the boy named Roy gathered up his toys and games from his bedroom floor. He scurried, scurried, scurried as he quickly hurried. Quick to the door he came, shouting out loudly, "Who is it? Please tell me your name?" But the kid, the kid at the front door spoke so soft and low. So soft and low in fact, that the kid's name the boy could not hear, which only added to his Fear. Opening the door a crack, the kid standing there sent a shiver down the boy's back. For on his front stoop stood a big kid. A red headed kid. A yellow stripped shirt, blue jeans, and sneakers wearing kid. A kid named Sid.

"What is it that you want? What is it that you need?" said the boy, the boy named Roy. "I've seen you playing alone and you must be lonely, so I've come to play with you." said the kid, the kid named Sid. "Lonely and you want to play with me?" said the boy, the boy named Roy. "Yes, my mother always says, 'Sharing is fun and sharing is caring. When you share you show you care. You spread a little bit of joy around." said the kid, the kid named Sid. "Share the joy! Why should I have a little of the joy, when I could have all of it. So listen here kid, you kid named Sid. There are no toys to play with and no games for us to play. So, why don't you go, where you go, I need not know." said the boy, the boy named Roy. But the kid, the kid named Sid just stood there. He did not go anywhere. He just stood there and stared. Nor did the boy, the boy named Roy move, he did not dare.

"Would you like to come outside, we can run far and wide." said the kid, the kid named Sid. "No I don't want to come outside, or run far and wide. I want to stay inside." said the boy, the boy named Roy. "Can I come in." said the kid, the kid named Sid. "No, no, no, no! There is really no need, no need for you to come in. You need not stay. There are no toys to play with and no games for us to play. So why don't you go away." said the boy, the boy named Roy. But the kid just stood there on the front stoop. Like some big dumb Go-loop. He stood there and stared.
