“Now tell me one more time why you don’t want to meet Jarell’s friend?” asked Sharice.
Heaving a huge sigh, Shelly rolled her eyes at her friend.
“Seriously, why do I have to keep repeating myself over and over?” she said.
“Because you don’t make any sense, girl”, exclaimed Sharice. “I have MET Derrick and I would do him myself if I wasn’t so crazy about Jarell.”
“OK, I’ll do this one more time,” Shelly said with exaggerated patience. “I just don’t like blind dates and I’m not into black guys. You already know that. I was never around many of them when I was growing up. Now, that doesn’t mean that I don’t think Denzel is hot and that guy on the FBI show is BEYOND sexy! I admit it! But, I just don’t really understand why it’s such a big deal to you.”
“It’s a “big deal” because it’s a friend of Jarell’s, and if you don’t agree to go out with him, then I’m stuck with BOTH of them when I’d really rather just be alone with Jarell. I mean what are best friends for, Shell?”
Shelly got up from the kitchen table and went to the refrigerator for another diet soda. She had been watching her weight since she and her last boyfriend had broken up. He had accused her of being fat even though she knew that her height and weight were pretty much in line with each other. Turning to Sharice, she asked her if she wanted anything else.
“No, I don’t want another soda! I want you to at least MEET Derrick!” she stubbornly replied.
Popping the top on the soda, Shelly leaned back against the breakfast bar in her kitchen and eyed Sharice. She took a drink of the soda and swallowed it.
“Ok, fine,” she finally said. “I’ll meet Derrick. But if we don’t click, don’t expect me to go out on a full-fledged date with him. Deal?”
“DEAL!” Sharice squealed and she launched herself across the room at Shelly and gathered her in a body crushing hug. “I’m going to call Jarell right now and set it up! You won’t be sorry, Shell, I PROMISE!”
“Un huh,” mumbled Shelly. “Famous last words.”
After Sharice had gone, Shelly carried her soda back to her bedroom and started looking through her closet, wondering what kind of an outfit a black guy would want to see her in. She supposed that it would depend on where they were going and what they would be doing. Surely Sharice wouldn’t plan anything complicated.
I think I really DO want to meet this Derrick, Shelly thought, and she was actually starting to anticipate it a little. It had been a huge blow to her ego and self-esteem when her ex-boyfriend,
Alan, had told her that she just wasn’t attractive to him because she was too fat. His exact words had actually been that she was “too fat to fuck.” Of course, he had said that to her one night when he had failed to get hard when they were making out. She had been humiliated at his words and sent him packing that same night.
Since then, rumors had reached her that Alan was really bisexual with a heavy leaning towards men. To Shelly, that made perfect sense and explained so much about the problems that had been present in their relationship. He had always liked for her to suck his cock and, at times, it had seemed to her that he PREFERRED sex to end that way. To be fair, he had done plenty of things to make sure that she also enjoyed herself, but there hadn’t been a lot of true fucking between the two of them.
