December 2008 - While waiting to make the repairs…,

It was after the fourth round of schnapps in Geneva that those scientists working on the Large Hadron Collider decided to forego further testing and run the machine at full speed.

There had been predictions that the collision of protons at the speed of light could produce black holes and, while claiming the experiment was safe, scientists said that if any black holes did appear, they would be absorbed into the rocky tunnel into which the collider was built.

But…,

on that same night, moments after these protons collided, the wall between Israel and Palestine disappeared, sparking speculation that just because we can see a black hole does not mean that it exists in the now.

“The black hole escaped,” scientists said, “because it did not enter into our time until it reached the wall.”

Others claimed that scientists had just proven the existence of the Higgs boson, sometimes called the God particle, and tolerance became the new word of the day, everyone now believing that God was watching, and that He didn’t want the wall, and that He wanted everyone to get along.

In Jerusalem, people started waving instead of shooting, and the city soon opened up to everyone. This had repercussions throughout the entire world.

Christians, now thinking that perhaps they had drifted a bit too far into everyone else’s business, since God hadn’t spoken to them, returned to the basics of love thy neighbor, not try to control them.

Taking on that idea nationally, constructive, rather than destructive, words came out of Washington and the world applauded.

Paul O’Neil’s vision of digging water wells in Africa was put into motion, thereby creating hundreds of thousands of new jobs, better health conditions, and ultimately, a bustling economy, which gained the U.S. many new friends while, at the same time, losing many potential enemies and suicide bombers.

With all of the cultures working together, sharing ideas and knowledge, mankind flourished. Terrorists, now seeing their causes coming to an end, put down their weapons and went home.

And during the search for cheaper, renewable fuels, marijuana was rediscovered as one of the most efficient crops, not corn, which lead to the repeal of the law making it illegal.

This spawned a whole new industry which, after taxes, led to a huge budget surplus, a much happier population, and tax rebates in the very first year!

America was dreaming again, this time with the world alongside. Space exploration ensued, a base was established on Mars, and plans were being made to…,

But…, I digress.

Discussing the ramifications of black holes and Schnapps and religion, one could only wonder if there is some sort of correlation.

“Drink enough Schnapps,” some say, “and the black holes will come. Religion will follow in the morning.”

Others say religion drove them to Schnapps, and then into black holes.

But, getting back to the main point, the real question is, “Shall we fire up that collider again and see what happens?”

There are so many things to fix.

Dave’s work revels with the fanciful, ponders the inscrutable and enigmatic, and examines the human character.
